Marty was born and raised right in the Finger Lakes. She was raised at a small homestead just around the corner from Cranberry Creek Homestead. Marty taught elementary art for 22 years, then became an instructional support teacher for another 7 years before retiring from public education. Not one to sit idle for long, Marty worked for several different arts organizations, including work as lecturing professor at Elmira College in education. In June of 2018, she retired from the education sector altogether to join her daughter Heather in opening and operations of Cranberry Creek Homestead.
She spent her formative and teenage years working alongside her father and sisters. You will find Marty’s artistic touch just about everywhere at Cranberry Creek (CCH). Marty works on all the day to day stuff, is a canning champion and is a wealth of knowledge for local history and places to go!
Don’t be surprised if she arrives with a few extra threads attached to her clothes. Marty uses her years of being a master seamstress, costumer, magical sewer to make all manner of costumes for her grandchildren. Be sure to ask her about them!
